Styles can't be deleted, renamed

I'm trying to change a style's name or font size
with 'modify', but when I 'save', it doesn't change the
text or save the changes in the style.

Also, I'm having trouble 'deleting' certain styles while
in the 'modify' pulldown.

Thanks for any help.

Do the previous settings reappear the next time you open
the document? If this is the case, first make sure that
the "Automatically update document styles" option in the
Tools>Templates and Add-ins dialog box is deselected, and
then modify the style as desired.

You should be aware of the fact that you cannot delete the
built-in styles. Depending on which style we're talking
about, the behavior is a bit different, though. For
example, the Normal style will give an error message, but
some of the other built-in styles, such as Body Text, will
revert to its factory default settings, when you try to
delete it.

On the other hand, if you are referring to resetting a
style definition so that it uses the settings of the
