Styles created on any format change

Jac Tremblay

I'm new to Word XP but an old timer on older versions.
Every paragraph in my documents are formated with some
user style. When I apply a change on a paragraph, a new
style is created which is not what I want. When I did that
in Word 2000, the paragraph format was just different for
that particular paragraph (different than the style
specifications). If I reselected the style name in the
styles list, I was asked I wanted to change the style or
to reapply the style. Now, in Word XP, if I delete the
newly created style, the paragraph returns to the Normal
style which is not desired.

Is there a way to tell Word not to create styles on each
format modification I make?

Thanks.

These are not styles but "formatting." Clear the check box for "Keep track
of formatting" on the Edit tab of Tools | Options, and you won't be bothered
by these "styles."
