Styles in Word 2007

I thought I was doing this right, but... First, I wanted to delete some
styles from Word 2007 that I had put in myself but then got goofed up. (Don't
ask.) Having tried many times without success, I deleted all the "Normal"
Word templates. Then, I opened a new Word document, went to Manage Styles,
checked New documents based on this template, deleted all the styles I wanted
to get rid of, and saved the document as a Word template named Normal.dotx.
Then, I opened a new Word document -- and all the styles I thought I had just
gotten rid of for good are still there. Aargh. I don't get it (obviously).
Could someone help, please?

Well, first of all, you can't create the Normal template. Only Word can do
that. And when it does, it calls it Normal.dotm. Instead of deleting the
Normal template, open it for editing, then go into the Manage Styles dialog
and delete the user-defined styles.
