Styles, ribbon, etc.

Dear all,

It's a long time since I've posted here! Still, I have just gone from
Office 2004 to Office 2011, so I'm trying to come to terms with all
the changes. The one that bugs me at the moment is this:

Each month, I produce a document for a magazine, and have developed
some custom styles for headings, references, etc. Is it possible to
make these styles appear in the ribbon "home" tab. After thinking
that my styles didn't appear at all, I found them in the pop-out tool
box. That's OK, but modifying what's visible in the ribbon would be
more convenient, as the items are bigger and easier to click on (for
me).

Thanks, and please excuse me if I have got the terminology wrong...

I'm seeing paragraph styles in my Word 2011 ribbon, and I don't
remember doing anything special to put them there, so they should
be in yours, too. They're in a largish rectangle about 2/3 of the
way along the ribbon.

They're also in the Formatting toolbar, which you can choose to
display.

Thanks for the reply. I can see the default paragraph styles in that
box: is there a way to get my custom styles there too (or even better,
instead)?

With thanks

I don't know what to tell you, Phil. I just created a new style and it
immediately showed up in both the ribbon and the formatting toolbar.

I too have just created a new style, and as for you, it showed up in
both places straight away. On the face of it, it would appear that
"imported" documents' styles don't work as I want them to, but
"native" ones do. Hmm, curious. It may be easiest simply to recreate
all the styles I want (there's only about 10).

Found it! Modify style, and tick "add to Quick Style list" (or
untick, as appropriate).
