sub or superscripts in category axis

How do I format a category axis so that I can properly display chemical formulas? (like H2O, the 2 needs to be a subscript, but the rest of the letters need to be normal text? I can format the whole thing as sub or superscript, but that's not what I want to do.

Use a text box. Select the chart. Type H20. XL will automatically
create a text box within the chart. Position it as desired. Select
the text, pause, then select just the 2. Select Format | Selected
Object... and from the Font tab select the Subscript option.
