Sub-Page Names

SFCurley

Sometimes if I insert a new blank sub-page (or paste one in), the sub-page
name in the grouping is blank, but then later names itself to the highest
level page in the group. Other times after pasting it it, it seems to have
the name of the first text appearing on the sub-page (but then sometimes
re-names itself per the above).

Any documentation about the process or the naming/renaming conventions? Or
any input from anyone?

Thanks.

Well, seek and ye shall find: I figured it out. . . just click and hold on
the page or sub-page name move out to the right and a small triange appears
and you can drag up or down. Sorry for such a dolt-ish question.

This was actually the answer to the first question I posted right before this
one. The ability to page-reoder made this question moot. Sorry for the
useless postings and posting my own reply to the wrong question.

Hi,

Are you using SP1? I assume you are.

If you create a page called "My Page" then that title appears in that
page's tab.

If you create a new subpage the subpage tab should be blank until you
add some text in the main pane. Then the first word or two of the text
should be the title of the subpage. But it doesn't appear on the
subpage's tab until you move away from the subpage.

After that it *should* be pretty consistent.

Thanks for the help you give Andrew. I'm sure everyone appreciates it.
What I would like to know is how the number of words/characters is
determined by OneNote for the name. A scenario where this would be handy is:
Lets say I need a page called "Vendors" (which is easily done) followed by
tabs of the Vendor Name. The only solution I know of would be to enter the
name of the vendor on the first line...then hit enter (or click with the
mouse in another area) and put info there.
Does that make sense?
Is there a better way?

Stan,

Thanks for the kind words.

The "type it in the first line then hit Return" approach is what I do
myself.

Essentially if you go on typing on that first line the name of the
subpage keeps getting longer until it is too long to fit on the tab.

I don't recall having seen anything which documents this new feature
in SP1 in detail.

Perhaps one of the Microsoft folk can add further information for you.

As long as the names you need for the subpages aren't more than 20 or
so characters long you should be ok, I think.
