Sub- & superscript shortcut keys don't toggle in PP2007

In PowerPoint 2007, B2TR, type "H2O", select the "2", then press control + =.
The "2" is subscripted. Repeat the process, and nothing happens. What was
expected/desired was that, on repeating the process, the subscripted
character would no longer be subscripted. That is, control + = was expected
to toggle between subscripted and not subscripted, as it does in Word.
Workaround: click on the "Clear all formatting" button on the "Home" tab of
the ribbon.
The same behavior is observed for control + +, which superscripts characters.

Over the last couple weeks, I've noticed the same behavior. This is
especially annoying because pasting text from InDesign seems to always come
in as superscript (even if I change the paste mode to "Keep Text Only").

Is there a fix for this yet? I have a number of people that I support
complaining.
