Sub-Task Problems

B

Brian

I am brand new to Project 2007.

I want to create a main project and list the subtasks related to it and
every time I indent a new sub-task, it changes the main start/end date and
wont let me change it back. Am I handling sub-tasks the wrong way?

Thanks,
Brian

Hi,

This is how Project works.
Summary tasks last frolmm the start of the first subtask till the end of the
last one.
You CANNOT set Start, Finish or duration of a summary task; these are
calculated values.
Hope this helps

Hmmm...OK...I'll play around with it more...

What I was needing to do (and maybe project can't do it) is to have a
project that starts today and runs until December 21st with individual
sub-tasks within the grand project due at different times.)

Hi,

Of course project can do it.
Make a milestone task (0 duration) underneath your summary task and give it
the constraint must finish on 21/12; your summary task now ends 21/12.

But Project isn't meant to receive start and end times, it is meant to
CALCULATE these rfrom links between taks, constraints, etc.
