Sub Web - greyed out - HELP!!

Hi

I have tried to set up a Sub Web because someone who I do not know
has got to add some 'forms' connected to the office I'm building the site
for.

My intention was to move the existing site (that is being developed)
in to a sub web - which would force other users to enter a password in the
ROOT (is that right?).

I created the sub web in FrontPage 2000 - but I was unable to provide
a password/user rights because the 'Security' maker was greyed out.

When I tried to publish the site WITH the sub web it kept asking for a
password, of which I haven't got because the FP section is greyed out.

I have contacted the Host - who says to FTP a folder - which will stop
anyone else getting to my work.

Is the host right?

I would prefer to do everything in FP2000

Is there a workaround for the GREYED OUT SECURITY marker?

Many thanks in advance - Stephen

Your action plan is more or less correct. The password when you first
publish will be that set up by the host for the root web - you will need
that whether you publish a subweb or not.

The Security option will only work with a server based web site running on
a secure disc filing system with FrontPage extensions installed and
running, and if the server host allows it.

In other words you must publish the website and subweb, then apply security
to the remote (live) web, and the host must support subwebs with unique
permissions - it sounds like the host does not allow this, and does not
know much about FP extensions anyway.

Using FTP may corrupt the extensions on your website.
