Sub webs dont publish

T

Treetop

Hi, I saw another question about subwebs, but it did not help me. My Webhost
allows subdomains, and I created a couple, but now cannot make FP (2002)
publish my subwebs. I did the following: Open/Save new web with new homepage
(given it the name of the subdomain I chose before), drag it into my original
web-directory. Open original web directory in FP and click publish (include
subwebs). When I key in the URL of my subdomain, nothing happens.
What do I do wrong? (PS. my webhost supports frontpage extensions)
Thanks
Andrea

You need to create the subsite / sub web within the original web.

Open your original web, go to folder view, right click select New and then
either create a new folder and convert it to a subsite, or select new
subsite.

Hi

I'm interested in the same thing.
Your reply was very helpful but I still have problems.

So I created the subweb in the original web, but when I publish my page
(index.htm) to the subweb it replaces the homepage of my original web (also
index.htm).

How do I solve this????

THANKS!

Yes - the subpage has already been set up with the hosting service.

So the main web folder is "Wedding" with it's own index page.
And there a Web saved within that called "RSVP".
My intention is create http://rsvp.wedding.com

Am I supposed to save an index.htm file withing the RSVP WEB?
And then do I click publish?
When I click publish, I am alerted that there's a CONLFLICT - presumeably,
since I already have a file index.htm (under the WEDDING WEB).

I appreciated your help!

Thanks,
Jesse

There is a difference between a subweb and a sub domain.
A subweb is www.mywebname.com/subwebname

A subdomain is http://subdomainname.mywebname.com

You need to check with your host to see if they support subdomains.

This involves special host headers and DNS settings on the host server.

You would actually creat a subweb and publish to a subweb on the host
server, but with the special settings pointed to the subdomain.
