subdocs: don't wan't changes saved to original docs

Anyway to prevent changes being made to original .doc files after
inserting them as subdocuments into a new document instance?

I have bookmarks that need to be updated inside of the subdocs and would
like to keep the originals clean.

Thanks in advance.

No, this is how subdocs are supposed to work. If you explain what your
application should achieve in a bit more detail, perhaps we can find a more
appropriate approach? Also, which version of Word is involved?

hey, if you get an answer, could you let me know as well??
my only other idea was to change the file attributes to read only, but i
havent tried it yet.
btw- i saved my sub-doc file as a webpage and i wasnt able to edit it, BUT
my vba code disappeared and now none of my buttons work. havent figured that
out yet either.
good luck - mike g

Hi Laptop,
Which version of Word? How long are these sub-documents (numbers of
pages)?

Theoretically, you could lock the section against editing, but which
options are available depend 1) on the version of Word and 2) whether
the user would expect to be able to use the graphics features in the
document.
