subdocs lock up

Here is what happens:

open a document 285kb in size. click the outline button
on the toolbar to provide an outline view. Then click the
expand button on the toolbar and the document then
proceeds to lock up. Task manager shows Word not
responding.

Any ideas as to how to fix this? Thanks.

Master documents are nortoriously bug-ridden. Read the
