Subform's Misbehaving!

I have a main form (frmMaster). On frmMaster, I'd like to
have a subform (frmDefect). Every time I place frmDefect
as a subform on frmMaster and save the form, Access
changes the name of the subform to frmMaster (or whatever
the main form is called). This results in an error
because, obviously, you can't have a form as a subform in
itself.

I've tried multiple instances of the database. I've tried
compacting and repairing. I've tried importing forms from
other databases. I've tried renaming the forms. I've
tried everything and nothing has worked.

I've never seen this happen before. Has anyone else had
this problem? If so, how do I get it to stop?
