Submit form problem with FP

E

Ewan

Trying to create a page with a form which will email me when "submit" is
pressed.
Enabled frontpage extensions on the website, but frontpage 2002 keeps
telling me "frontpage server extensions have not been configured"
when I check the form properties.
I looked on the Microsoft knowledge base and it told me:
In FrontPage 2002, do the following:

1.. Click on Settings.
2.. Your browser will launch and the Change Configuration Settings
web-based administration form will appear.
3.. Enter in your SMTP mail server and the email address that will appear
as the From and Reply To addresses when a form is submitted.
4.. Click Submit.
I can't see a "Settings" item on the menu anywhere for a start and for
another thing if I click on Web settings it tells me : server version - none
currently in use.
I (think I) know that the frontpage extensions are enabled and working ok on
the website, as I have a couple of page which use the hover button feature
and these work fine.
Any ideas or help please
Thanks,
Ewan

You can only use Tools Settings Admin on a site hosted under the FP SE
- but your host need to set up the SMTP mail server

Stefan,
Thanks for your clear explanation.
Maybe it was me, but before I just didn't realise I had to setup something
on the site, must have been the way I read it initially, I was looking for
something on the FP program itself.

However, I have setup an email address on the server for FP to send the form
to. It still says that it will go to _derived/nortbot.htm. Changed that in
the form properties and put an email address.
I tried the form and no email arrived, created the folder _derived on the
server and u/l the nortbots.htm file into it which FP created. Still no
success though?
the form is at http://www.spicygirls.org/form2.htm if you have time to have
a look.
Next idea at all?
Thanks.
Ewan

That form won't work because you have:
copied the page to the site using FTP
(you must publish your site using FP in http mode)
or the FP SE on the site are corrupted
(have your host repair them)
or your host has not set up SMTP server under the FP SE

After the FP SE are repaired, try opening the site in FP using File Open Site and entering
http://www.spicygirls.org/
Then open the form and resave it

OK Stefan,
I've used FP to upload a new form but now I'm getting an error when I try to
enter data:
"Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page:
http://www.spicygirls.org/form5.htm"

Checked on my site with the hosts control panel and it tells me FP SE are
still enabled. It asks me what email address I want FP to use and that's
still there as I entered it.

Am I still making errors with the form design or is there something more
that I'm missing?
Thanks again,
Ewan

Reopen your site in FP and look at View Reports - Problems - Component errors
- to see if any are identified (like does formrslt.txt exist in the _private folder)
If there are none identified, contact your host hand have them run a repair on the FP SE

Stefan,
Now maybe we're getting somewhere slowly...
This is the report I got:
A FrontPage Save Results component tried to write to
"_private/formrslt.txt", but access to this file or URL is disallowed
because it is located in an invalid subfolder, is not part of the web, or
was disallowed by an administrator.

There wasn't a _private folder so I created one while the hosts file manager
and created an empty txt file with the name above and (sorry) FTPed it to
the folder.
(This is the first time I've tried to use the Publish command and it's slow
going for me.)
Still get the same error though.
Or is it something to do with permissions writing to the file maybe?

Reopen your site in FP and look at View Reports - Problems - Component
errors
- to see if any are identified (like does formrslt.txt exist in the
_private folder)
If there are none identified, contact your host hand have them run a
repair on the FP SE

The _private folder is managed / created by the FP SE
- you can't create a valid one (w/ correct permissions) using the host control panel
Your FP SE are corrupted by doing so
- contact your host hand have them run a reinstall repair on the FP SE and check the site permissions
