Submitting an existing project to Project Server

I had an mpp file for a project that was in progress. This file had
the option turned on to prompt for an automatic save (due to previous
(bad experiences with crashing laptops). I tried to publish the
project to Project Server and it seems like I may have responded yes
to the save prompt while in the project center. Now when I try to
open my project, the following happens: "my project" quickly flashes
by,
the Project Center screen appears,
my project is not in the Project Center, and
"my project" file name appears on the title bar at the top of the
screen.

Is it possible that I have overwritten my file with the entire project
center? Is there any hope of recovering my file?

Any guidance?

In that Project Center view inside of Microsoft Project Professional, do you
see the "Click here to close this view" option in the upper right corner of
the dialog? If so, what happens if you click it? If that closes the
Project Center view, then can you save the file, and reopen it correctly?

More importantly, when you say you had an .mpp file and tried to publish it,
are you saying you DID NOT import this .mpp file into Project Server using
Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to Enterprise? If you NEVER
imported this project using those steps, then you are using Project Server
incorrectly. If this is the case, you should ask your Project Server
administrator to delete any reference to this project using Admin - Clean up
Project Server Database in PWA, and then you should import the project into
the Project Server database using the directions in the following FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/SaveMPPfile.htm

After importing the project, you should republish the actuals using these
steps:

1. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
2. Select the "Overwrite actual work entered by resources" option
3. Click OK

Hope this helps.
