subscripts in chart axes labels

I can enter the cell data and format for subscripts (such as H2O) and it looks fine. When I select the data and create a chart (any kind) it removes the subscripts. I can input each axis label in text boxes and the formatting holds, but this seems excessively awkward. Is there a better way?
Thanks,

Doesn't look like it. The chart axis labels do not pick up the text
formatting. You should send feedback about this from the help menu.

Hi,

You need to fake this one. Instead of using H2O with a subscripted 2, you
need to find a subscrpted 2 in a font set. I know that many font sets have a
Superscripted 2, 3, ... but I don't know which one has the subscripted one.

You might google Subscripted font sets.
