Substitute Resources in single project

Hi. I'd like to be able to assign generic resources to a project (like
modeler, network programer, etc) then have it automatically assign real
resources (like Joe, Bob, etc) to them. We're not using anything fancy like
project server, which seems to be the way the substitute resources wizard
works. Is it possible to do this just in a stand alone copy of project 2003?
