Hi,
Sometime between last Wednesday and today, all of the substitution web bots
disappeared on our live web site ( http://tastycomputers.com ) and were
replaced with just the substitution text. I noticed today when publishing
my disc-based version to the live site, and after publishing, the expected
price changes, etc. didn't update. I use the substitution component all
over our 140 MB site for pricing updates on products, as well as for e-mail
addresses, and miscellaneous text, and it was scary to lose it all. I
viewed the source code for the live pages, and the web bots were gone,
replaced by text representing the previous substitution values.
I then performed the usual deletion of all .web and FP temp files, etc.,
then reopened the disc-based site in FP, and found that all of the
substitution web bots still existed, so I closed it, then deleted my entire
live site, re-installed the server extensions on my live site, then did a
clean publish-all from the disc-based site to the live site (takes a long
time to upload 140 MB), then opened the live site, recalculated hyperlinks,
saw no problems in the FP site report, but then noticed that the web bots
were still missing, replaced by plain substitution value text as before.
Why??
I then published the complete live site to a new disc-based site, then
opened the new disc-based site, did a search for all text in all pages that
matched the substitution values, created all new substitution web bots on
all pages where I needed them (took 2 hours to get them all,) recalculated
hyperlinks, then published to my live site, closed the disc-based site,
opened the live site, recalculated hyperlinks...and finally got my web bots
back on the live site.
I've been using FP2002 since last February, then upgraded to FP2003 last
month. I always follow the rules: only accessing site files by opening the
sites in FP, always importing any new files while the site is open in FP,
all files, folders, form fields, etc. have no spaces and are lower case. I
always recalculate hyperlinks and check site reports for problems before
publishing via FP's http publish routine, then always open the destination
web after publishing and recalculate hyperlinks on it as well, then view
site reports for problems also. I'm the only person that has ever
created/edited/published this site. Never had a problem before today. When
I changed to FP2003, it was a clean installation (restored ghost image of
drive before Office and FP were installed, then did a clean installation of
Office 2003 Pro and FP2003.) The first time I used FP2003, I opened my live
site, recalculated hyperlinks, then published the whole shebang to a new
disc-based web, and since that time have been working on the disc-based web,
then publishing to the live site (changed pages only, letting FP compare
file timestamps, not optimizing HTML beyond deleting leading whitespace in
code.)
Sorry to be somewhat long-winded, but this baffles me, and wonder if there
is some yet-undiscovered web bot glitch in FP2003. My host is Microsoft
bCentral; they use the latest FP server extensions (they'd better, since
their company created them!) Maybe their server became somehow corrupted?
What do you experts think? Has this happened to anyone else?
