Subtask Numbering

Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to enable tasks with whole numbers:
1, 2, 3 and subtasks as: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3? Each time I add a
new task, it assigns a new whole number, and I'm unable to
make it appear as a task within a task. Thank you so much!

The ID is always sequential integers.
You can use the WBS (Work breakdown structure for this)
From the project menu select WBS, then define the code structure.
After that, from the insert menu select "column" and then choose the WBS
column.
Depending how you set up your WBS definition it will provide exactly what
you are asking.
