I need to subtract 1:55.2 from 1:58.1
I need a formula to do it-everyone I try doesn't
work.

I thank you in advance

Simple subtraction will work.

If I type 1:55.2 in A1 and 1:58.1 in B1, then write the
formula =B1-A1, the result is 00:02.9
What are you getting from such a formula.

I import a file it comes in formated as time
even if I format it as text I still get #value#
when I minus it with simple substraction. There are a lot
of times that need to be subtracted. Is there some way to
do this without re-entering all times with keyboard.

If you are importing the file, the most likely problem is that these cells are treated by Excel
as Text. You can't do subtraction when one of the arguments is text.

To convert them to true times (which are numbers), Edit/Copy an empty cell. Then select the
cells containing the "times" and Edit/Paste Special and select the Add and Values options.

Or use Search and Replace: select these cells, search for a colon and replace with a colon. That
should also convert them to times.
