subweb and session variables

I have a subweb that uses session variables created on the
root web. Up until this morning, everything worked fine.
Since this morning, the session varibles created on the
root web are no longer set in the subweb.

So what happened this morning, before I noticed anything
broken, I created a database connection to a SQL database
using the Frontpage database component. Before this
morning, I connected to the database using VBScript and
ASP pages.

What could have happened to make my session variables
start all over in the sub web?
