Sudden appearance

On this screen shot the rectangular line, The words COLUMN 1, and the
up & down arrows in each column suddenly appeared. I may have done
something without realizing it, that made it appear.
I want to remove it but don't know how, please help.

Sorry, but screen shots or other graphics don't render in newsgroup
messages. You'll need to provide a more explicit description of the
circumstances. Be sure to specify what version of Excel you're using.

I'll take a guess, though It sounds like you've applied the List
Manager, but that's rather hard to do without realizing you've done it...
The feature is implemented by a Wizard dialog where you have to at least
click either Cancel or Finish in order to dismiss it. However, if I'm right
clicking inside the border should produce the List toolbar [unless you've
previously turned it off]. If it doesn't show up go to View> Toolbars> List.

Click the List button on that toolbar & select Remove List.
