Sudden inbox switch on an Exchange server

A

Until a week ago, all of my incoming messages (from an Exchange
server) have arrived in the Inbox under my Exchange account. Last
Thursday, 80% of them started coming instead to the Inbox under
"Folders on My Computer", while the other 20% still appear under my
Exchange account. I have no rules set, and only one mailing list rule
set. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem! All incoming mail is being moved to the
inbox "on my computer" by Entourage. The same Exchange account is set
up on a Windows machine with Outlook and it stays in the correct
server inbox until Entourage is opened. Then everything is moved back
to the computer only.

Does anyone know why this would happen? I have no rules setup either.

Your Exchange Server has no knowledge of the "Folders on My Computer".
You're correct that Entourage must be moving the messages. Only three
things will move messages automatically: rules, mailing list manager and
junk mail filter. Although you've said you have checked all rules and
mailing list rules, I suggest checking again. Disable them all for now
and see if you still have the problem.

Hope this helps! bill

My problem, too. I've unchecked all the rules (including SpamSieve), quit
and restarted several times, send myself "test" messages (from mine and from
another account).

One factor: my server coming into the home is a POP account, but I do
connect to the Entourage server on my campus. However, my wife is connected
in the exact same way I am, yet her messages go directly into her Exchange
inbox.

I need to have the messages appear in the Exchange inbox, and not the
"folders on my computer" so I can sync between home and office.

Many thanks.

You could change your POP to an IMAP account. That would be the simplest
option. Other than that, your option would be to create a POP rule to move
your messages to your Exchange account.

You might be able to do this by adding an Additional Header with reply-to
going to your exchange email address.

1. Tools --> Accounts.
2. Select the account you want to send from.
3. Options --> Additional headers.
4. Header: Reply-to, Value: <exchange email address>

Note that this will only be the suggested return address - senders can still
choose to contact you from your sending address - for example in Entourage,
the Reply command will reply to the default reply address, but the Reply to
Sender command will reply to the sending address regardless of whether a
Reply-to header is present.

Hi Charles!

Why are you connecting to your Exchange Server via POP? Are you unable
to do so as an Exchange account via OWA

Bill,

I could use the web-based OWA, but only in the Light version. I find the
web-based version cumbersome and slow. In my Exchange setup at home, I have
accounts both for Exchange and for RoadRunner, which is the ISP for home
use. Unless I am misunderstanding something basic about my setup (always a
possibility, I'm not a tech person), I get to Exchange through the rr.

I did solve the inbox problem, at least for now: I've unchecked all Rules,
even those for SpamSieve. When I get a moment I will turn Spam Sieve back on
to see if it had caused the problems. Since SpamSieve indicates that it
needs to be first in the Rules list, other rules to move incoming mail to
distinct folders would be ignored.

Thank for any additional advice you can offer.

Best,

Charles

Hi Charles!

Glad you at least found your answer. Be sure to follow the link I
provided you earlier
<http://entourage.mvps.org/exchange/exchangeathome.html>. You can
connect Entourage to your OWA server and use it at home just like you
were on campus.

If this is of interest to you I also have some scripts for doing Global
Address List lookups while away from the campus and I'm still looking
for testers to give feedback about another script that will
automatically switch your server settings between "work" and "home".

Hope this helps! bill
