Sudden weird table formatting

Hi,

All of a sudden my Word 2002 tables take on new styles, indent erratically,
and (sometimes) the gridlines also disappear. Sometimes a style labeled TOC5,
TOC2, or TOC1 appears in the table cells, and each cell becomes indented.
This happens after the tables have all been set up and look perfect, with no
obvious cause.

I just want a simple table style in Arial 10, with shading in the top row, a
few other properties set. How can I keep these problems from occurring? I've
read here that making changes to Normal style may be part of the cause? I
changed Normal to Arial 10 pt. also.

All assistance greatly appreciated!

The whole concept of "table styles" has been poorly and unevenly
implemented, so they're chancy at best, but it sounds as if part of your
problem might lie in having "Define styles based on my formatting" checked
on the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect Options.

Greetings!

Have you received a response yet? My problem, at least
from the standpoint of formatting, is similar. Most
everyone here has Word 2000. I was upgraded to Windows XP
and Word 2002 due to scanner issues. But now a document
with a table covering four of its 18 pages prints fine
for me, regardless of which printer I send it to, yet my
customer and my peer find the text at the immediate left
of each column truncates half a letter. I've shrunk and
enlarged the internal left and right margin several times
yet when my peer prints each one the results change the
distance from the margin but the letters still truncate.

take care,
Margret Boyd
