Suddenly can't access a tab

D

Doug

All of a sudden, I can't access a tab in my notebook. When
I try to click on it, the hard drive cycles continuously,
and eventually, I get this error message:

"OneNote can't read from the following file because there
was a problem with the device:

C:\Documents and Settings\etc..etc (the name of the file
here)

Check the device and try again"

Trying again has no effect. The program hangs completely.

I've check in Explorer and the file is there. It is not
hidden or marked read only. File size is 2.25 MB, and the
file was last modified two days ago.

Is there any way I can recover the data in this file?

I would first do a chkdsk (by looking at the Properties
of the C: Drive from Explorer, then the Tools, tab, then
click "Check Now") and see if any errors are reported.

Assuming the disk checks out OK, what happens when you
try to double-click on the *.ONE file directly from
Explorer (as opposed to using the navigation tools in
OneNote)?

Worst case - can you recover from a recent backup (File |
Open Backup)?
