suddenly can't add row

Inserting a row in the middle of a chart used to be easy. all of a sudden I
get a message "To prevent possible loss of data Microsfot Excel cannot shift
nonblank cells off the worksheet. Try to locate the last nonblank cell by
pressing Ctrl End and delete or clear all in cells between last cell and end
of data. then select A1 and save your workbook to reset the last cell used."
Huh?
I don't have a clue what this means, or why I'm suddenly getting this message.

Hi,

I don't have a clue what you mean by inserting a row in a chart, you can
insert rows in the spreadsheet but charts don't have rows?

The error message you got indicates that there is something, data or
formatting at the bottom of the spreadsheet. If you were to insert a row
where would that stuff go? Excel would have to move it off the spreadsheet,
hense loosing it. Instead you are prompted to check out the problem and
decide what you want to do.

When you press Ctrl End the cursor is moved to the end of the "used range"
bottom right corner of the active spreadsheet. If there is nothing on the
rows at the bottom of the spreadsheet that you want then you should select
all those rows and press Ctrl+- (control minus) to delete them. Then save the
file and try to insert the rows at the top again.

I found this answer from James Booker to Laurence and it was helpful:

Sounds to me like you have some data in the very last row of the
worksheet (row 65536)

The easiest way to tell is to look at the scrollbars that you use to
move around your worksheet. If the draggable bit is really tiny (which
it shouldn't be unless you have a huge spreadsheet) then you have some
data. When you're adding a new row, it would push this data right off
the end of the sheet - which Excel is trying to tell you it's not
willing to do.

If you can't find anything in the last row (press control + down arrow
to jump there, then start at column A and work across) then the easiest
way is to go to the last row you know you have data in, select all the
rows below it by holding the mouse button on the number of the first
empty row then dragging down, then choosing Edit->Delete.

This should now enable you to add new rows

It's funny that this original poster signed "TIA" as that is my first name
(and it's kinda rare) and I am having the same problem (but I don't think it
was me back in July... but I have been having this problem for months).
