suddenly, Excel 98 won't open some files

When I try to open some Excel files I get a window titled MS Visual
Basic with "error in loading DLL" inside. The files are ones I have
made up without macros and used many times. Other Excel files open
OK. All the files open on another Mac.

I tried reinstalling MS Office, but it didn't help. I don't use the
Office navigator system (Office Manager?), I open the pieces
individually as I need them.
