Suddenly Lost Formatting on Normal Template

Out of the blue, when I went to generate a new Word (03) document, instead of
the cursor starting at the normal line for the date on a business letter, as
it has always done, the cursor appeared at the very top of the page.

In addition, the blank page displays more like a square, than the usual 81/2
x 11 proportions and the vertical ruler on the left shows lines, but cannot
be adjusted (it has no "top" or "bottom" line). The horizontal ruler at the
top displays and functions normally.

Changing the margins in the Page Setup does not change the cursor position.
If I open, then close, View, Header Footer, the cursor appears in the proper
location.

I have restarted and twice run the Detect and Repair. No luck.

Wha' happ'd?! This is making me nutty.

Thanks.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View tab | check the "White space
between pages" box | OK.
