Suddenly word won't close properly and strange behavior with docum

Hi all,

After no major issues at all for several months, word now won't close
without crashing and I can't highlight text by left-clicking and dragging
(though ctrl-a still works). I also can't even place the cursor anywhere in
text, regardless of whether it's a new file in which I've added text or an
old file.

Any suggestions other than run diagnostics or reload office/word?
