Currently you must use either Alt-F4 or the Escape key to close Outlook
message windows. Alt-F4 ought to be reserved for closing applications and not
extended to individual windows. Outlook is just about the only place where
Escape is allowed to close a proper window (as opposed to a dialog box). many
programs, such as Windows Explorer, allow you to close individual windows
using either Ctrl-F4 or Ctrl-W.

forum--it's where the Make a Suggestion process has landed me for some reason)
