Sum Error!!

Excel 2000 on a Windows 2000 Pro machine

When I highlight a few cells in a column full of numbers,
it shows me the sum in the grey area towards the bottom
right.

When I highlight some numbers, I get 1.000e234 or
something similar! This seems to happen when the sum is
0, so summing -100 + 100.

Why is this? How do I solve the problem?

It's only a 'rounding error' - a very tiny little bit different from zero
because of the way computers do arithmetic. There's no problem to fix!
