Sum for column containing colons (:)

I am trying to add a column of numbers with colons in them. They are call
minutes in a cell phone bill such as 6:00, 12:00, etc.

When I use the SUM formula, I get an error "the formula you typed contains
an error".

How can I add this column to get total minutes of usage?

And you didn't think it would be a good idea to post the formula that
returns this error?

From what I can see I'd guess either the first / middle or end part of the
formula is wrong. :)

Seriously though, as the other have said, post the formula. Just one thought
though - Are those real times, or is it text in those cells. If you click into
one of those cells, do you actually see the colon in the formula bar? If so
this is not good :) Hopefully they really are numbers formatted as times, but
we need more info.
