Sum Problem in Table

Hi:

I've created a table and tried to use the formula =SUM(ABOVE) but the next
error message appears in the cell:
"Not valid character specification". I've also tried =sum(A1,A25) and the
same error appears.
There are only numbers in the column I trie to sum. There are only 25 rows.
By the way, I use Word 97 SR1
Any suggestions
