Summarization of hours by resource by outline level

Need to summarize hours by resource by phase of project. For example
Phase 1 (Outline level 1)
Resource 1 - 50 hours
Resource 2 - 345 hours
Phase 2
Resource 1 - 75 hours
Resource 2 - 100 hours
etc.

Try grouping by Phase, then Resource.

My question was not clear. Need to summarize hours by resource at the
summary task level. This task level is not the total project level; the
summary tasks wanted are at outline level 1. My resources are loaded at
the detail task level but I want to see a summary roll-up.It does seem like
Grouping is the right function but have not found the right combination.

Jack, I replied back to my original posting instead of to you. I do not
think my question was clear enough. I want to see the roll-up of resource
hours by resource at a summary task level. I used the example "phase". I
have been trying various combinations of the Grouping function but with no
success yet.

How does the resource usage view work for you?

You need Phase in a custom field to group by it, Project won't group to an
existing Summary Task

Hi

Create a new Group, where first group by 'Outline no.', then by 'Resource
name'. Now use the 'Usage' table. You will get summarisation of resource
usage at the outline level. You will also see the detailed tasks, but you
could hide these by clicking on the resource names. Also, you may hide a
lower outline level, if the summarisation at these levels is not required. OR
create a Filter for the outline level at which you would like to view.
