Summary/Crash Data Found at End of Word Document

While editing a Word document, my computer crashed on me.
After recovery, I opened the document (originally 2 pages
long) and found there were 4 pages. The info at the
bottom of the document - starting a page 3, contained
information about the file (i.e. Type of font, document
summary information, MS Word Version). What causes this?
I'm using Word 97.

In Word's File Open dialog, change the "Files of type" setting from "Recover
Text from Any File" to "All Word Documents."
