Summary tasks

I am a new user to MS Project 2003.
I can not get summary tasks to sum up anything
I have take over a project file where this worked in an older version of Project
If I open a new project and make 3 tasks, give the two lower ones a duration and indent them, the summary task still has 0 duration.

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Have you got Calculation set to Automatic? Tools/Options.../Calculation tab,
or press F9.
