Support for Access Being Dropped

I been hearing rumors that MS plans to drop support Access in favor of SQL / Express (Developer Version). Does any one have any information about this? If so, can you please provide specific references.

Thank you,

Hey Mike,

Don't know about that, but it would be awfully hard for FrontPage to stop
supporting Access entirely, since it supports ALL databases that are OLE
DB-complient!

It doesn't make sense to me either Kevin but I'm hearing real strong rumors about it.

From this article it seems that Microsoft is not YET phasing out Access. In fact there is a plan in the future version of MS Office or Access to integrate Access with Microsoft SharePoint. They believe that SharePoint and Access integration makes it easier for users to work together, share data, and put Access data on the Web.

The "end of life date" of these Access versions are :

Access 97 01/16/2004
Access 2000 06/30/2004
Access XP 06/30/2006
Access 2003 12/31/2008

The "end of life date" means Microsoft stop supporting these versions on these dates. But they will come up with new versions.

Again, I find it incredibly hard to believe that MS would phase out Access
at all. I work with a number of MCS consultants, and have heard nothing of
the sort from them.

I can certainly believe that MS will phase out support for earlier versions,
particularly with the advent of Longhorn. New technologies seem to replace
old ones more and more quickly every year.
