Suppress annoying questions about clipboard when quitting Word

Uwe Kotyczka

Hope this groups is appropriate for my question.
else please tell me more suitable.

If I quit Word it often asks me if I wish to clear
the clipboard (picture, large amount of text).

I find theses message boxes just annoying and wish
to suppress them. However I cannot find any option
to do so. I am sure not to be the first one wishing
to do so, but I can find only questions about it, no
answers at all.

If it matters, I have Word 2003 (11.6568.6568 SP2)
here.

IIRC I had the same issue years ago with Word 2000.
But I am not sure if I did find a solution then.
Maybe yes.

Any idea?

Stefan's AutoText suggestion is a good one, but note that you will get the
message only if you have placed a "large amount" of text on the Clipboard.
If you can just remember to select something negligible (a single space, for
example) and copy it before closing, you won't get the prompt. I almost
never see it, and I use the Clipboard extensively.

As far as I know, you can't turn off the prompt.

Stefan, thanks for your reply :)

Oh, how I "love" those programs, which mean they
have to "think" for me. They almost always "think
in a complete different way I do.
Unfortunately I have to use Word :-(

And no, it is not a "large amount of data" I copy
into the clipboard, it's just a small image.

Most images that you place on the clipboard are considered (by Word at least) to
be "large amounts of data." :)

It's not, as I understand it, necessarily large amounts of data that are the
problem (whatever the message says). When you copy something to the
clipboard, it is put there in several different formats, some of which (for
efficiency) are just markers saying 'if you want this format, go query the
app it was copied from'. This may happen with large quantities of data, but
may also happen with 'small' images - exactly under what circumstances it
happens depends on the issuing application. When Word closes, if the
clipboard contains markers pointing to Word, it is the responsibility of
Word (the issuing app) to resolve them and Word chooses to ask the user if
this is necessary.

If you know it will always be unnecessary, you can automatically clear the
clipboard prior to closing, with VBA, but unless you are routinely
performing activity that triggers the message it probably isn't worth the
effort - with the risk of occasionally throwing away something you do want.

Thank you for that explanation. Still, most applications would probably just
delete the "markers" without asking the user.
