Suppressing Null in Report

B

BillA

Hi to you all:
I'm a real novice so I hope my question isn't to elementry.
I have a query that generates a "1" or Null to summarize data.
When I try to build a report I always get the same information twice.
I'm assuming that it is because of the nulls.

I don't know if any of this makes sense.

Help please

Can you provide an example of the "information" that you get (twice)? It's
a bit tough to diagnose from the general description...

Thanks Jeff:
I have formulas in the query that look at a field and then enter "1" if it
is true
and Null if it is not. There are about 10 differnet formulas tabulating
activity that takes place over the course of a month in our retiree
association.

In the report as ask it to "sum" the "Active Field" I will get the sum of
the 1s from that field and the others, then below I will get the same info
again if I am in "Detail"
If I try grouping it I get my answer and then the text boxes again with no
answer.

We can't see your report definition, so it's tough to tell what you mean by
"then below". Below what?

Are you saying that you have a control in a header of the report that sums
the field, plus a control in the Detail section that sums the field? What
are the control sources of these two places (i.e., the controls) that the
sum shows? Is there a chance that you've set the Running Sum property to
Yes?
If I try grouping it I get my answer and then the text boxes again with no
answer.

Again, I can't see it, so you'll need to describe more -- an actual example,
typed out, might help.

No I'm sorry I don't know the correct terminology.
I have tried both ways. With a control in the header that sums
and then with a control in the Details (only) that sums.

In both cases when I run the report it duplicates the labels
and in the Header gives me my totals next to one set of labels
and then blank next to a second set of labels.

When I put the control the details section, I get the same
information twice.

I'm not sure how else to explain it to you. If you are allowed, I could send
you a copy of the output from the report.

Newsgroup protocol prohibits posting attachments. Some folks who visit
these groups use very slow modems and pay their ISP by the connect-minute --
attachments eat a lot of bandwidth.

Could you put the report output somewhere on the web for folks to lookup?

The things you put into a report are controls. The ones that receive data
from your source would (probably) be "text" controls. The ones that
"explain" what's in the text boxes are "label" controls.

When you say that your report duplicates labels, I'm guessing that your
report definition has two label controls in it (it's rare, but possible, for
a report to spontaneously create duplicate labels on its own).

Have you opened the report in design mode and inspected the control source
for the textboxes and labels in question?

Thanks Jeff, for your willingness to hang in there.
I am the webmaster for our church, so I can post to a page on our website
for you to look at. It will take me awhile to get it posted, but when I do
it will be at www.brightonfirstpres.org/bill.htm

I have been in the design mode and looked at the controls for the text boxes
and labels and don't see anything that jumps out.

Thanks again for all your help, the report will be posted in a few minutes
