Hi -

I've looked through preferences and spoken to MS and there is nothing built in. Does anyone have an applescript or some work-around that suppresses the blank document from opening?

Thanks.

Even with an Apple Script to close it the new doc is going to be generated
anyway.

The simplest thing to do is Command+W to close the doc, but keep in mind
that Word is worthless without a file open - you can't even change
Preferences without some doc being open. Alternatively you could keep some
file handy & double-click it to launch Word.

Assuming that you do intend to open another file, however, the blank one
evaporates when you do so what difference does does it make?

Sorry, I was still wearing one of my other hats when I replied - but the
response is the same... Just substitute Excel in place of Word in the second
paragraph :-}

The reason you did not find anything in preferences is that this action is
an implementation of an apple standard. When switching to any application
that does not have an open document, the application must create one.
