Suzanne/Herb/Margaret : Please respond - even "sorry can't help!"

This is a re-posted message (slightly revised) as my last seemed to be
ignored.

When I click on "file open" I get a message which reads :-

"You do not have access to the folder <default storage folder path>\*.*.
See your administrator for access to this folder."

However, when I click "ok" the file open dialog opens normally.
I'd like to get rid of the false error message.

My computer is a stand alone and I am listed as the
administrator - even my photo is there to prove it !!!.
I only recently installed Windows xp (approx. 3 weeks) but Word had been
working normally since then until a couple of days ago.

Can you help me ?
Thanks so much , Jack Sadie

Solved, thanks Suzanne !!!
It was a corrupt Normal.dot discovered by running winword.exe /a as
suggested.

After re-loading Word97 following upgrading to WinXP from Win98, what I had
done was copy my old Normal.dot into the new template folder in place of the
new Normal.dot;

Clearly this does not work - a shame because the old file had been
customised to suit me and I have now to sort it out all over again.

However the problem has gone and I am a happy bunny again.

Thanks Great big #;>))
Jack Sadie.

You should be able to salvage a lot of the customizations from your old
(renamed) Normal.dot using the Organizer.

What you can copy using the Organizer: styles, macros, AutoText entries, and
custom toolbars.

What you can't copy: customized layout (margins, page size, etc.), keyboard
shortcuts, or customizations of built-in toolbars.

You can fudge the last item however, by creating a custom toolbar and moving
any customized buttons or menus to it, copying it into your new Normal.dot,
then moving the buttons and menus to the toolbars there.
