Suzanne MVP please re open word file

Hi Suzanne,
You responded to my request for help - but I need
clarification. My problem is I get the error
message "the document name or path is not valid. Try
these suggestions. Check file permissions...Use the File
Open dialog Box to locate...." You asked me if I was
opening the file with the Word File Open dialog or
Windows Explorer. I'm a little confused about this.
What I have tried is to, in addition to just double
clicking, going to File in menu and trying to open
there...is that what you mean? I also tried to right
click on the file and and then open with Word and also
tried this opening with Internet Explorere. I always get
that same error message. Is this what you meant? Thanks
Kay

I was trying to ascertain whether you were trying to open the file by
double-clicking on it in Windows Explorer (or by selecting it from the
Documents list on the Start menu) or from within Word, using File | Open or
the Open button on the Standard toolbar. Sometimes files that can be opened
from within Word when it is already running cannot be opened any other way;
the reason for this is usually that the file association has been lost. To
reestablish it, you can "reregister" Word (reestablish its association with
the .doc and .dot file types in the Windows Registry) by selecting Start |
Run and typing

winword /r

Note that there is a space before the forward slash. When you press Enter,
it will appear that nothing is happening (Word will not start), or you may
get a message. In either case, you should then be able to open Word
documents by double-clicking on them in Windows Explorer.

If you are told that the file is "unavailable" (and the conditions described
in the title apply), see "OFF: Cannot Open Office Documents or Cannot Edit
Inserted Objects After You Install Office XP Service Pack 2 or Office 2000
Service Pack 3" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328613
