SWF / Flash in Office X or 2004

An end user is able to import import an SWF into PowerPoint X (10.1.5) and
on her G4 Quicksilver. On my quicksilver or MacBook Pro in either PowerPoint
10.1.6 or Office 2004 11.3.0 I can't import PowerPoint. I don't understand
why it only works in the 10.1.5 on her machine. The error message that comes
up when trying to import the file into PowerPoint is "This file is not in a
recognized file format"

Does anyone know where I can turn for help on this? It's driving me nuts.
Thanks
Peter

I can't say for sure, but one factor may be that you don't have Office X
fully updated - 10.1.8 is where you "should" be on all Office X
installations. There may have been something that broke between 10.1.5 &
10.1.6 & perhaps that will fix it. (Use the updater from the Mactopia web
site.)

Also, make sure that OS X is fully updated (you don't mention version) &
repair disk permissions following any OS or app updates.

Thanks. I tried updating but it didn't do the trick. I now think it's an
Apple bug because I've noticed that on machines running Quicktime 7.1.3 the
SWF files don't run, but they do run on 7.1.2 or earlier. I think it's a bug
and I've submitted it to Apple. Does anyone know how to safely downgrade
Quicktime to 7.1.2 or earlier? I'll do a search for this.

Thanks,
Peter

Many thanks Penny: That mostly worked. Enabling FLASH playback in QuickTime
Preference as listed at Adobe allowed
1 - Quicktime 7.1.3 to playback SWF files,
2 - PowerPoint to play the SWF in an existing PPT,
3 - but didn't allow the import (Insert->Movies and Sounds->Movie from
File-> "file".swf) of an SWF, instead, it said "This file is not in a
recognized movie format."

Am I just missing something else? (quite possible since I know little about
ppt) --- Thanks in advance

Peter, I have performed the same tests, and I'm also noticing that
it's an Intel thing....The swfs play fine in powerpoint on a Powerbook
G4, but not at all on a MacBook Pro.
