"Swish" only works when there is text involved?

Hi,

If I draw an AutoShape, use WordArt or insert a picture, I can't animate it
with "swish" because it is grayed out.

So far, I can only get "swish" working when there is text involved.

(1) Input text into a textbox.

(2) Input text into a textbox, then fill it with color and apply 3-D effect.

(3) Do (2) above, then do "change AutoShape" to change the object to any
shape available on the system.

Have I missed anything? Appreciate advice.

Regards,

This is correct. Swish only works with the text in a single textbox. It
will not work with an image or a group (even if the group is of text boxes).

Bill, Thanks for mentioning a group of text boxes. I didn't know because I
haven't tried that.

Wonder why you're asking that Epinn!!!!
You can use swish with any autoshape, all you need do is right click and
choose add text - you dont have to actually add any text!

Did that answer the question / help?

Thanks, John. You made my day. When I tried to apply swish to an
AutoShape, I found out that swish was grayed out. When I was successful
with a textbox, I became totally focused on textbox and fell into the trap
of working **backwards**. I didn't know that I could invoke swish by
clicking "add text" and NOT keying anything.

To answer my own question, swish DOES work without text involved. I just
have to "trick" the system. I appreciate your clarifying that.

So, you wondered why I asked? I couldn't figure out by "staring" at the 10
blocks/cubes. Yes, I am kind of disappointed too. On the other hand, I am
glad that I miss that otherwise I won't know that I can "fool" the system.

You always teach me to do things the smart and easy way. Thanks a lot!

You read my mind. As soon as I found out I could swish an AutoShape without
text, I had so much fun applying the rest of the family - whip, flip, color
typewriter (with text), unfold, faded swivel to AutoShapes.

I do have one question for Microsoft. Why do they set things up in such a
way that I have to make the system believe that I am adding text? (Okay,
color typewriter is the exception and should be grayed out for AutoShapes.)

Am I still not getting the whole picture?
