Switch for Telephone number

K

KarenMike

I am trying to do a mail merge with an access 2003 query. The table is set so
my tel. numbers are stored and displayed as (xxx)xxx-xxxx. When I merge it
with a word doc, the number is displayed as xxxxxxxxxx. I have reviewed the
recommended document "www.gmayor.com/formatting_word_fields" as recommended
in previous postings, but it does not address telephone numbers.

Adding the following formatting switch to the field will display the numbers
in that way

\# "(###) ###-####"

Hope this helps.

It should have been possible to work this out from the information on my web
site, however I have added a brief section on telephone number formatting.
In fact Doug's example here will not work as intended as the hyphen needs to
be quoted or it will be replaced by a space. I also suggest using zeros
rather than hashes as phone numbers can contain leading zeros thus

\# "(000) 000'-'0000"

would be my recommendation. The space after the right bracket ')' is
optional.
