switch from PC to Mac

Have just switched to Mac. Feel greatly misled about the problems
switching from the PC. Cannot open docs and AOL is also messed up. If I
install Microsoft Office 2004 Student Edition, will old docs print as
they are seen on the screen? Also, any suggestions on how to be able
to open old Microsoft Works projects (files saved as .php). Installed
MacLinkPlus Deluxe but it translates, for example, postcards into data
files not the graphics we had. Any help/guidance/suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

What version of the Mac OS are you using? Sounds like pre-OSX? MacLinkPlus
should not be needed in OSX.

Hi Janet,

Glad you were brave and made the switch. There are lots of folks here
who can help you make the transition as smooth as possible.

The Student/Teacher edition of Office 2004 will be fully able to use
Microsoft Word documents (.d0c) files. They will print as you see them
on screen. If you had any special fonts in your documents, you will need
to install those fonts onto your Mac before they will be used by MS Word
(or any other application).

Old Microsoft Works projects may need to opened in an old copy of
Microsoft Works then saved in a different file format. Use RTF (rich
text format .rtf) if that's available. MS Word can open and edit RTF
documents.

I can't offer suggestions about AOL other than to make sure you have the
latest version of their software. Visit their web site to get it.

After you install anything large (Office or AOL for example) you should
go to the Applications>Utilities folder and run Disk Utility. Use disk
utility to repair permissions.

If your mouse only has 1 button, hold the control button down on your
keyboard while you click to get what you are used to having as
right-click. You can use mice with two buttons and scroll wheels if you
prefer.
