I have paragraphs in Verdana font in Word 2000 that I wish to change to font

concerning Word, all you have to do is, say, use Edit | Replace and
replace one font with the other. [If the document is setup well, it
might be enough to change one or two base styles, though.]

Precondition is, naturally, that the font is installed. There's nothing
you can do in Word if Futura Lt BT is not correctly installed on your
system. The font itself is a commercial font; often, (old) Corel CDs
have tons of reasonable fonts.
