Switched from Domain to Workgroup - now can't access documents

I recently moved a small network from a domain-based model to a
Workgroup for simplicity of administration (please don't ask why). I
also needed to move a hard drive from a broken machine (which may have
been the domain controller) to another machine in the workgroup.

I now have a problem accessing files from many of the folders - I get
this error:

"The document name or path is not valid. Try these
suggestions.

*Check the file permission for the document or drive
*Use the file open dialog box to locate the document
"
I can't copy, move or do anything with the files, as I don't appear to
have the necessary permissions. Does anyone know how I can resolve
this?
