Switched from Workgroup to IMO in Outlook 2000

Switched from Workgroup to IMO in Outlook 2000 and Contacts is not used but
Address book is. How do I change to get to Contacts when using MAPI mail?

You can't, of course. That's the first thing you lose with IMO. Did you not
read up on what you were doing?

Thanks. I had not looked at that source but was told what to do by local
company support person. He was wrong.

I have other system same as above one but O2000 was installed as IMO and
Contacts is the default in To: etc. for e-mail. Why the difference? Should
I un-install Out2000? Off2000? and The re-install?

You'll have to provide more information on what you need to do. IMO does not
support extended MAPI. It uses Outlook Express and the Windows Address Book
as its transport which can only support simple MAPI. Accordingly, IMO will
still use your Outlook Contacts, but only through the Windows Address Book,
not the Outlook Address Book.
It is not clear from your post what application are you running that
requires extended MAPI.

Russ,

This system was made this way by a techie in the support group where I
consult. I was given the machine for home use and am suffering the
consequences.

I looked at the doc and also went to the WAB program. I can not Import to
it as the Ex/ImPort are grayed.

I'm up to saving my pst files and reinstall Outlook or Office if that will
help.

I really appreciate your help.

Why not switch back to Corporate/Workgroup mode?

I just did that and I still don't see the names from my Contacts when using
the To: for e-mail.

In services it shows Outlook Address Book and Personal Folders. Is that
correct? Add, delete or modify it?

I've wasted enough of your and my time on this. I will uninstall Office and
reinstall in IMO etc. Is there a list of files I should save before
uninstall other than pst and iaf?

The way I see it you now have 2 choices:
1. Stay with Corp/Workgroup and just finish configuring the Outlook Address
Book correctly: Remove the Personal Address Book Service, enable your
Contacts Folder as an email address book in its properties, then restart
Outlook
2. Use IMO if you prefer, but make sure you configure the Windows Address
Book service correctly by enabling sharing in Tools > Options...
Either way your Contacts will appear in the address book view, unless all
this switching back and forth between modes has munged your Outlook profile
beyond repair.

Now, right-click on the Cntacts folder, choose Properties, select the
Outlook Address Book tab, and check the box marked "Show this folder as an
e-mail address book". (I think OL 2000 has that.)
