switching bold and italic not possible (field in table in footer)

Hello,
I have strange problem in German version of Word XP.
When I place in footer a table with field in cell:
{ IF {PAGE} = {NUMPAGES} "" "..." }

then... I cannot switch bold (and italic and underscore) in document. It
just quickly "unchecks". No matter if I click button in toolbar or choose
shortcut (in German version it is ctrl-shift-F for bold).
When I select part of text and mark it bold - it works. I just cannot
switch to bold "in place".
When I change this field, for example by replacing {PAGE} or {NUMPAGES} by
constant value, then problem is gone.
When this field is not in table, then there is also no problem.
In Word 2000 there is no problem.

I have not yet tried to check it in other language version of Word XP.

Questions:
1. Is this problem known? I could not find anything similiar in Google.
2. Could someone else reproduce this problem?

The same problem I have reproduced in Polish version of Word 2003.
No matter if this table is in footer or in header.
